in-house training courses

The following 'in-house' courses are offered for presentation within clients offices or we can arrange room hire at convenient venues.

Combined Production Chemicals and Microbiology

(3 to 5 days)    2 / 3 trainers

The course focuses on the common fouling problems affecting oilfield production and the options that are available for treatment. Potential problems are recognised and explained as the fluids pass through the reservoir, into the downhole tubular completion, through sub-sea or overland pipelines and to the topside processing station. Inorganic and organic fouling are covered.

This course also includes a 6 hour module on microbiology covering both production problems and reservoir souring. Laboratory evaluation procedures, performance and compatibility tests and formulation of chemical products are described. An introduction to production operations, commercial information, field application and environmental issues are also covered.

The course is complimented by comprehensive course notes which are available to all attendees.

See course contents (1).

Oilfield Production Chemicals

(2 to 4 days)    1 trainer

This course has similar content to the combined 3 day course but does not include microbiology. In addition, some of the field examples and descriptions of chemical dosing systems and equipment are omitted. More time will be allocated to the chemistry and the various products that are used.

A wide variety of simple and complex, inorganic and organic chemicals are represented within this industry. Wax inhibitors, asphaltene dispersants, drag reducers, antifoams, hydrate inhibitors, emulsion breakers, scale inhibitors and dissolvers, corrosion inhibitors, scavengers and water injection chemicals are all discussed. Advantages and disadvantages of individual chemicals are explained. Laboratory evaluation procedures, performance and compatibility tests and formulation of chemical products are described. Environmental issues will be covered.

The course is complimented by comprehensive course notes which are available to all attendees.

Oilfield Microbiology

(1 or 2 days)

These courses are provided by Commercial Microbiology Limited, Aberdeen. They cover the impact of microbiological contamination at all points in the oil winning operations from the injection water source, through the injection system itself, the reservoir, production and surface handling system to the export pipeline and crude storage.

A course notes book is provided for all attendees.

Management and Modelling in the Supply of Production Chemicals

(1 or 2 days)    1 trainer

This course focuses on the management of oilfield production chemistry.

The presentation discusses how the provision of services has evolved to match the changing needs of the customer. The relationship between the service company and the end-user will be explained. Different types of supply contract will be described. The basis for design of a chemicals supply proposal will be covered together with tools such as modelling systems which are used to aid chemicals selection and application.

Copies of the Power Point presentations and notes will be included.

The course is provided by OFC Technical Services Limited.

See course contents (4).

Chemical Application

(1 day)    1 trainer

This course, provided by Blairchem Limited, compliments the production chemicals course by providing more detailed descriptions of the application techniques used to deploy oilfield chemicals.

Dosing pumps and systems are discussed in detail. Information is provided on oilfield process equipment and the application of production chemicals to specific points in the process. Compatibility issues will also be covered.

The course is illustrated by many field examples and case histories.

See course contents (5).

Scale Control

(1 day)    1 trainer

A one day module on scale control is available. More detail is presented than in the combined course.

Course notes are available for each attendee.
